About Us

Who are GaraPlan and SDS Design?

SDS Design is an Architectural and Structural Design Practice with over 20 years design and draughting experience in the Architectural, Structural and Mechanical disciplines.

GaraPlan is a Standard Range of Building Plans conceived by Scott Simôn, a Director of SDS Design, to meet the demand for quality design at a fair price throughout New Zealand.

Why Choose Us?

Dealing directly with design professionals gives you a consultative design process, elimination of costly omissions and maximisation of the building's value.

You've all heard of "Cowboy Builders",well, today we have "Cowboy Architects", due in part to the proliferation of cheap CAD packages, which can make bad plans look good.

"Billy Basic" buildings are available from many places. They have no site consideration, intended use options or building quality assurance. They use the absolute minimum materials and specifications for non-dwelling usage, ensuring a shorter lifespan. They are primarily prefabricated frames in "Tin Jackets" and your only contact is a keen salesman.

SDS and GaraPlan provide comprehensive plans at the lowest possible cost. Our emphasis is on good design and building with suitable materials. We can include aspects which integrate the building into it's environment, matching the intended use and maximising the value.

How do you benefit?

Home Owners -

1 - You can rest assured that your plans will achieve a Building Consent - as these plans are already approved by a leading certification authority - A1 Building Certifiers Ltd.

2 - The drawings are comprehensively detailed, allowing a builder to give an accurate quote before you commence construction.

3 - The final cost of all GaraPlan Working Drawings (Building Plans and Site Related), approximately half the normal charge, saving you money and time. You can then decide to purchase or construct any components from your own resourses.

Builder/Developers -

1 - From our experience, builders are often asked to quote for a client - except there are no plans, nor any form of consent.  Now a builder can invite a prospective customer to meet and discuss plans that are pre-approved.

2 - There is enough information for you to accurately quote any of the plans before or as you meet with your customer, including options.

3 - You will be seen as very professional in offering a new client a range of quality plans plus the backing of an Experienced Design Practice and a leading Building Certifier.
